The primary motive is the aesthetic value, so I tend to lean towards the “art for art’s sake” school of theory. I do not like to be surrounded by ugliness, no matter how meaningful it may be; that would kindle too much negative energy. Therefore, I save the ugliness for my poetry; with words, I can be shockingly raw and transparent and ugly; but with my art, I prefer to let the colours glow, the shapes flow, the texture rich and thick with paint, the vision dreamy.
