conflicting emotional textures
that transform my ideas into
multi-dimensional stories.
Like people, my work often
surprises me. Each piece has a
character which is complex,
spontaneous, and flowing.
Color is significant in all my
work. Its expression ...

Hobbies / Interests Besides my glass and mixed media artwork, my favorite interest is my dog, Abby. She's an inspiration on how to live life with abandon, give unconditional love, and make everyone in this world feel chosen and special. My hobbies are long walks, old movies, and reading books on soft coffee house sofas.

Biggest Artistic Inspiration Living in the Pacific Northwest, I've been surrounded by glass and mixed media artists most of my life. With so many glass artists, it was natural to develop an interest in the process of creating art out of glass. My greatest inspirations have come from the works of Frank Englesby, Dale Chihuly, and William Morris.

Why Did You Become An Artist not provided

Your Personal Biography Mark Lubich was born in Port Hueneme, California in 1956. His father, a career Naval Officer, moved the family around the country on an almost yearly basis until he retired and the family settled in Seattle, Washington in 1970. Mark has always called the Pacific Northwest his home since his family and many relatives were born and raised in the Grays Harbor and south sound region of Washington State. Though Mark lived in Seattle for most of his adult life, he currently lives in Olympia, Washington. Here he creates his fused glass pieces as well as his mixed media collage work.

Mark’s career as an artist began with an emphasis on mixed media collage. He started experimenting with various mediums in 1992 when medical issues forced him to retire from his work in the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services. In 1999, Mark began working with glass, both stained and fused.

Mark is a self-taught artist, his only academic work coming from a pottery course in his freshman year of college and the required art classes in high school.

1974-1978 - University of Washington - BA in History
